Antony Blinken Talks On Russia And Ukraine Conflict | Latest Update | Daily News

Now a days, tension between Russia and Ukraine is increasing after news of mobilization of  Russian troops near Ukrainian borders. US and EU looks very Concerned about this situation. On December 2,2021, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken meet his counterpart in Russia to talk about the expected Russian aggressive move against its neighbor Ukraine but, this meeting ended in vein which rises fears of war in the region.

History of Russo - Ukraine Relations;

After USSR dismemberment in 1991, Ukraine emerged as an independent state. Both, Russia and Ukraine enjoyed friendly relations and Russia helped to develop Ukraine economy. In return, Ukraine provided Safe Russia safe access to Black Sea. In the start of 21st Century, some issues on natural gas started between both countries. Ukraine started tilt more towords European Union (EU). To protect its interest  in Black Sea, Russia wanted to get safe and secure access to Sea. 

Background of recent Conflict;

The ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine has its roots in 2014 crisis that arised after Russia claim over Crimea region and Eastern region of Ukraine. Russia formally annexed Crimea after a disputed referendum in March 2014. While, violence in Eastern Ukraine between Russia backed forces and Ukraine military killed more then 10,000 people since April 2014. In July 2014, situation escalated when a Malaysian Airlines flight shot down in Ukraine which left 298 people killed. This incident converted a territorial issue into an international crisis. Accords helped in ceasefire but attempts for diplomatic resolution of conflict remained unsuccessful. In 2018, this issue once again came in highlight after Kerch Strait confrontation between both states. On the issues of territorial waters violation. In November,2021 Russian troops moved near Ukrainian border which made world concerned about Ukraine US, European Union (EU) and NATO forces are trying to protect Ukraine from expected aggression by Russian side. The emerging crisis in Ukraine can deteriorate the US and Russia relations. Russo - Ukraine conflict can also open a new battlefield for old foes, US and Russia.
